CANDLE CARE

Just like making a candle is an art, so is “maintaining” your candle! Every wick has been thoroughly tested with each fragrance and vessel to ensure your candle behaves the way it should. Follow these few simple guidelines, and you will receive maximum burn time with superior scent throw from your candle.

Trim your wick to 6mm. Keeping your wick trimmed will prevent soot from building up on the inside of the glass.

The first burn establishes a “memory”. Burn your candle from the wick to the edge of the glass for the first burn to prevent a “tunnel”. This time will vary on the size of the vessel you have purchased. Each time you relight your candle, allow the melt pool to reach the edge of the glass to maintain the memory.

A correct candle memory has been established when there is a layer of liquid wax touching all edges of the container.

After you extinguish your candle, please trim the end of wick that is curled over.

Prior to relighting your candle it is important to trim your wick with an Illumina Wick Trimmer or a pair of scissors. Trim your wick after each burn for an optimal burning experience.

--------

Keep your candle away from drafts and always supervise children and pets around an open flame.

--------

Keep your candle away from flammable material.

--------

Place your candle on a stable surface that is heat resistant and never move a burning candle.

--------

How long can I burn my candle?
The length of time varies according to the size of the candle. If you burn a candle too long, the glass heats up, the wick over heats and too much wax melts. This all contributes to smoking.

--------

For a small candle, such as a Downlights Mini Crystal Candle (4.5cm diameter) burn for a maximum of 2 -3 hours.

--------

For a medium sized candle, such as Downlights Fundraising preserving jar candle (6-9 cm diameter) or Illumina’s Diamond Cut Candle, burn for 3-4 hours.

--------

To extinguish your candle, we recommend you use an Illumina Wick Snuffer or gently blow it out. It is important to check the wick is fully extinguished. We do not recommend you use the lid, a liquid or another object placed over top of the candle to extinguish the flame.

--------

Please ensure you extinguish your candle when there is a 10mm layer of wax at the bottom for precautionary safety.

--------

Fragrance, burn time, habits and environmental conditions all influence the burn time of a candle and the appearance of the wax.

--------

You can reuse your candle by placing the vessel in your freezer for several hours, then use the tip of a butter knife to gently crack the wax. Wait for the glass to come to room temperature, then rinse it out with warm soapy water.

--------

We love mother nature as much as you do and we encourage you to reuse your empty vessels in as many adventurous ways that you can. Downlights’ Preserving Jar containers can be used for jams or chutneys, storing legumes etc., or as a rustic vase. Illumina’s Lidded Crystal vessel can house your cotton buds, jewellery or make- up brushes.
